Why choose a singer to perform at my wedding?

  • To entertain your guests during the signing of the register
  • To make your wedding unique and distinctive
  • To include songs and lyrics that are meaningful to you
  • To add character to the ceremony & create a special memory.
  • As a surprise gift to your guests
  • To lead the hymn singing
  • To create a sense of occasion & an atmosphere of celebration!
Explain the Client Consultation Service you offer.
As part of the fee full advice is offered to all clients to help select their wedding songs. I listen to understand about your music taste, wedding plans, guests and influences. From this I help advise and make suggestions, sing sample demonstrations and develop a bespoke programme of wedding music with you.
When should a singer perform?
The most popular choice is during the signing of the register. Other options are:
  • At the start of the wedding to set the scene
  • For the arrival of the bride
  • In place of a hymn
  • During a candle lighting ceremony
  • During communion
  • While the bride and groom exit
How many songs should I choose?
It depends on which music you choose and when you want them performed. I will perform as many songs as you want though singing at a wedding is different to a concert performance. The right balance between background music to enhance the atmosphere and entertainment for your guests needs to be achieved. As a guide at most weddings 3 or 4 songs are performed, usually during the signing of the register.
Can I choose a song that is not on the list?
Yes you can choose any song you like providing it is available in a suitable key for me to sing
What Languages do you sing in?
All songs can be sung in the original language, Welsh or any other preference providing translation is available
How do I know which songs to choose?
It depends on your personal preferences and what is appropriate for your style of wedding. Most clients choose a mix of traditional and classical or light music which works very well. Clients usually browse the song ideas list, listen to song samples, make a note of any songs they hear and like and discuss options with me before deciding. I can also share real life examples of other weddings with you and make suggestions/recommendations for you.
Can I have a religious music in a civil ceremony?
By Law no religious music may be performed during a civil wedding service. Any song choices should be agreed with your registrar in advance. But there are numerous classical, jazz and love songs you can select for the civil ceremony which are perfect with harp, piano or String Quartet
What about the accompaniment?
We will discuss together according to what is most appropriate for your choice of music and wedding. I will liaise with all musicians involved to brief them and supply song music to them.

At a Religious Ceremony:
At a church ceremony a singer is usually accompanied by the church organist on organ or piano. Alternatively a harpist or string quartet could also accompany the singer. Also, some songs can be performed unaccompanied or with a classical backing track on CD if appropriate for the venue.

At a Civil Ceremony:
If a harpist, string quartet or pianist are also performing at the venue I will liaise with them to rehearse and prepare your song choices. This works particularly well in civil wedding ceremonies which are very short without musical interludes. Also, some songs can beautiful performed as a cappella (unaccompanied) or with a classical backing track on CD.

If you are looking for other wedding musicians such as a harpist, string quartet or pianist please contact me for suggestions.
